AWCI Awards of Excellence 2017

The Association of Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI) held its Awards of Excellence event on Saturday 12 August 2017 at the Sheraton Mirage, Gold Coast. CSQ had the pleasure of sponsoring and presenting the winners of the AWCI Apprentice Challenge, Matthew Gainer and Cody Power from Scooter Commercial.

The Apprentice Challenge was held at Tafe QLD Skills Tech on 13 June 2017, where apprentices were tested on their skills, knowledge and competencies in a one day construction challenge.  Apprentices from all around Queensland came to compete in the annual AWCI Qld Apprentice Challenge, with 7 hours to complete the construction. The apprentices were judged on their technique on framing, sheeting, setting and applying the cornice and ceiling rose.

The winners Matthew Gainer and Cody Power were two of twelve apprentices who competed, and now have the opportunity to represent Queensland at the AWCI Trans Tasman Awards at Hamilton Island in October, and at the World Skills challenge to be held in Sydney in 2018.

CSQ is always excited to be a part of this event and see how the apprentices who have accessed our subsidised training courses have built on their skills, and created pathways for themselves in the construction industry.
