Cairns business takes out state's top construction training Award

Local Cairns business, H.C. Building and Construction has been announced as the winner of the Judge’s Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2016 Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Excellence Awards.
 
The Judges Outstanding Achievement Award is the most prestigious of the event and recognises the achievements of construction companies and individuals who have been trailblazers in the industry.
 
In addition, Bama Cape York Services, was announced as the winner of the Watpac Award for Employer Commitment to Training Excellence for construction companies with up to $20 million turnover.
 
Representatives from the companies were presented with their Awards in front of an industry crowd at a gala event in Brisbane on Friday 25 November.
 
Mr Schimming said H.C. Building and Construction stood out from the competition in a very competitive field of entries. 
 
“This Award recognises H.C. Building and Construction’s commitment to challenging stereotypes and their passion for making a difference. They use simple and time honoured processes to break down barriers and build trust,” he said.   
 
“They seek to provide continuity of employment and certainty for the future for their young people. Their mantra is ‘I stand with you’ and they demonstrate this value every day.”
 
Mr Schimming also praised Bama Cape York Services.
 
“The judges noted Bama Cape York’s focus on training and support for a predominately indigenous workforce, with their support programmes being critical to enabling employees to reach their full potential,” he said.
 
“Their holistic workforce development programme goes beyond training to embrace family and cultural support.”

The Employer Commitment to Training Excellence Award recognises an organisation’s outstanding commitment to workforce development and fostering increased skills in the workforce.
 
Mr Schimming went on to highlight the outstanding success of the Awards.
 
“The CSQ Excellence Awards continue to grow in popularity every year. This year’s field of entrants come from all corners of the state and have a diverse range of backgrounds,” he said. 
 
“Our nominees share a common commitment to training and a strong desire to reach their full potential.

“We are entering an exciting phase in the construction industry as new technologies begin to transform many traditional building methods. At CSQ, we are at the forefront – leading the industry to success and quality outcomes by building a skilled workforce for the future.
 
“Against this backdrop of change, it is more important than ever that we invest in training and build a highly skilled, innovative workface.

The CSQ Excellence Awards attracts around 650 guests and honours the training and skilling achievements of students, schools, trainers, training organisations, industry employees and employers.”
