Train An Apprentice or Trainee
The aim of the employment incentive is to encourage employers to take on new apprentices/trainees who have completed a pre trade qualification that meets the criteria set by Construction Skills Queensland. The D2C and D2CC programs are examples of programs that prepare students to enter the construction industry and meet the set criteria.
Having a pre trade student flow through to an apprenticeship/traineeship will help develop existing skills and increase the number of participants looking for a career in the Building and Construction Industry.
To encourage employers to employ a graduate from a CSQ-endorsed pre-apprenticeship course as a full-time apprentice or trainee, Construction Skills Queensland in the 2011/12 financial year will provide funding assistance of $3,000 to employers who take on an apprentice/trainee who has successfully completed an approved program - $1500 payable after 3 months and $1500 payable after 6 months, subject to employment status.
Completion of the program is recognised when:
- a student is awarded their Certificate I in Construction qualification for D2C, or
- a student is awarded their Certificate I in Resources and Infrastructure Operations qualification for D2CC; and
- they complete 160 hours of Structured Workplace Learning for D2C and 80 hours for D2CC; and
- is signed off by the Construction Skills Queensland Industry Support Officer (ISO).
School based apprentices/trainees are eligible when they have been credited a minimum of 48 days of their apprenticeship/traineeship whilst still at school and 160 hours of Structured Workplace Learning for D2C and 80 hours for D2CC before taking up the school based apprenticeship/traineeship. The incentive is paid when the apprentice/trainee transitions from school based to full time.
